Happy Monday Generasian readers!
Today I am going to do something different and introduce not a song, but a new independent filmmaker born in Seoul, raised in the US, who goes by : : kogonada. (Movie Monday works as well, and it’s nice to change things up once in a while 🙂 Below is a beautiful compilation of the work of director Terrence Malick.

Malick // Fire & Water from kogonada on Vimeo.
: : kogonada, commissioned by the Criterion Collection and Sight & Sound, among others, impresses with his “delicate, precise” short films,“ which always ”revel in a sense of discovery“ and discussion of cinema. His profile is rising among serious critics of cinema and amateur enthusiasts alike. (He loves to focus on the distinctive styles of popular directors such as Wes Anderson and Stanley Kubrick in purely visual and enjoyable shorts, while also creating pensive, narrated films on the cinematic decisions of lesser-known filmmakers, like Hirokazu Koreeda.)
Those at Vimeo have definitely noticed him – although his account was created just two years ago, seven of his short films have been featured as Vimeo Staff Picks. Upon watching one of them, it is not difficult to see why these lovingly rendered and immaculately edited films can garner up to 2M views and 17.1K likes.
Watch, contemplate and enjoy! Beautiful, thoughtful pieces like these never fail to get me through studying.
