Music Monday: 紅豆 － 方大同

Happy Monday! I really hope your semester has gotten off to a good start.

Today’s song is quite relaxing. It is 《红豆》 by Cantonese pop artist 方大同 (otherwise known as Khalil Fong).The cute name of the song translates to “Red Bean,” and is a love song of sorts, but also a meditation on living life without being too sentimental and nostalgic. I rather love the lyrics and the composition of this song, mostly because of its simplicity and sincerity.

Fong has lived in Hawaii, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong, and is an artist of many influences and cultures. His popularity grew in Taiwan around 5 years ago because he sings in Mandarin and not Cantonese. He is known for his beautiful lyrics, smooth ballads and signature style. Fong usually wears glasses and is always dressed very smart and trim, unlike other pop artists which are more theatrical.
